In the light of the First Ministers announcement last Thursday, public worship can restart from Wednesday 15th July, and that is good news, but the Government has not yet published the rules they will require us to follow. However, all the basic safety measures – social distancing, masks, sanitiser, cleaning etc. – remain unchanged. As well as that there will need to be a booking system in place as numbers are limited to a maximum of 50 people and names and contact details must be provided for tracking and protecting purposes in the event of an outbreak. The church will need to be fully cleaned after each Mass before people can arrive for any other purpose. The parish council will be meeting next Tuesday to consider how we can safely and practically make at least a limited start to Masses as soon as possible, but it is clear we are going to need more volunteers which, as well as the stewarding and cleaning tasks as at present, may also involve things like queue management. We expect to have clearer guidelines after the weekend, but, until we are sure we have an effective booking system, and enough volunteers in place, we will be unable to resume Masses, but our desire and intention is to make some kind of start this week. So, if you are willing and able to volunteer, please let us know by clicking the volunteer link below.
Thank you.
Fr Frank (Please note that the Sunday Mass obligation remains suspended for the time being)
